The owner of a New York-style sandwich shop in Norwich is set to feature on a BBC show.

Edd Watkinson launched the Bodega on Norwich Market in 2022 and his food became a quick hit with locals.

In its first few years, he expanded to cater at the Cottage pub in NR3 and a selection of events and pop-ups.

But the founder is now delving into the world of television by appearing as a guest judge on Tuesday's episode of MasterChef: The Professionals.

The episode followed the final 10 chefs as they are split into two teams to run a food hall pop-up in central London.

Twenty-two leading figures in the pop-up food world were invited to judge their dishes.

The city local said he was approached by producers earlier this year and initially thought he was being scammed.

"To be honest, I didn't believe it straight away," he said.

"As we were chatting back and forth I was half expecting them to ask for my bank details, but before I knew it they'd booked me a train and everything."

He spent a day filming with several other guest judges and his business even got a small shout-out at the start of the segment.

Mr Watkinson added he hopes it will encourage a flurry of TV bookings in the future.

"I loved it and it would be so much fun to do it again," he said.

"Saturday Kitchen would be the absolute dream.

"I was on TV a bit when I was younger because my mum used to work for Trisha Goddard so we were in the studio a lot - it was nice to be back behind a camera for a bit."

MasterChef: The Professionals will air on BBC One at 8pm on Tuesday. It is also available on BBC iPlayer.
