The East of England is among the regions issued with the strongest warnings with the "potential for significant impacts to be observed across the health and social care sector due to the high temperatures".
This includes an "observed increase in mortality across the population likely, particularly in the 65 plus age group or those with health conditions, but impacts may also be seen in younger age groups".
The alert also notes that an increased demand for remote healthcare services is "likely" and the internal temperatures in care settings, including hospitals and care homes, could exceed the recommended threshold for clinical risk assessment.
