The sentencing follows three incidents between May 29 and May 31 last year at car parks in the Eaton Park and University of East Anglia area.
On these dates, Smith broke into three cars and stole items including rucksacks and handbags which contained bank cards.
The cards were used to pay for items at shops totalling worth approximately £346.
