Unthank Road has been the bustling hub of the Golden Triangle for decades with its variety of shops, both independent and chains, pubs, bars, restaurants, coffee shops and more.

The Esso Garage was knocked down and controversially replaced with Tesco Express in 2010.

The planning application was received in 2004 - it took over five years for the store to finally open due to reservations from the public.

Pictured in 1970, there used to be a laundrette on the corner of Unthank Road and Gloucester Street which is now an estate agents. 

Unthank Road has always been home to a range of businesses. The undated image shows a video club and newsagents which has been turned into an estate agents and the Istanbul Sunset Grill.

The road was hit during the Blitz in the Second World War however many buildings survived.

The original photographs of the buildings damaged by The Blitz were taken in 1941.

Looking at the corner of Unthank Road and Onley Street, the original photo from 1988 shows Sewell's Bakery which is now Hop Rocket.
