A man has appeared in court accused of drug dealing after police found evidence in a padlocked room in his home.

Donovan Gurley faces allegations of being concerned in the supply of both heroin and crack cocaine.

Norwich Magistrates’ Court was told the accusations date back to 2022 and followed the 57-year-old being stopped by police while driving in Norwich.

A quantity of drugs is said to have been discovered hidden inside a Kinder Surprise egg in the vehicle.

Josephine Jones, prosecuting, said a subsequent search of his home at Stevenson Road in Norwich discovered a burner phone inside a padlocked room that prosecutors say contained drug dealing messages.

Gurley, who is also charged with possession of quantities of diamorphine and cannabis, declined to enter pleas.

Ms Jones said they were “serious offences”  which carried a possible starting point of four and a half years imprisonment.

Magistrates said the offences were too serious for their powers and declined jurisdiction.

Gurley was given bail until a hearing on April 12 at Norwich Crown Court to set a date for his trial.
