A care home for adults with learning difficulties near Norwich has been given a one-star food hygiene rating.

Emerald House, in Salhouse, was given the second-lowest rating by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) after an inspection on September 15 and has been told "major improvement" was necessary in the way it carried out some of its hygiene practices.

The care home is run by Allcare Community Support (ACS) and opened in July after winning a planning battle to convert Manor Farm in Wroxham Road into a permanent base for six adults.

But now it has been criticised for the way it looks after food, with the FSA saying it needed to improve its hygienic food handling and that "major improvement" was necessary in the way it managed food safety.

With the parts which required improvement, inspectors said they had faith that standards would be maintained in future after systems and checks were put in place to ensure its food was safe to eat.

Despite this, the FSA did say the cleanliness and condition of the facility was good.

ACS declined to comment when contacted, following the publication of its one-star rating by Broadland District Council.
