A global travel guide has named Norwich as a must-visit spot in the "perfect" seven-day trip to England.

Lonely Planet has put together its itinerary for a week's getaway to discover England's royal and rebellious past, with Norwich named as the final spot to finish off the holiday.

The medieval streets of the "City of Stories" impressed the guide with the deep history of rebellion gaining it a spot on the itinerary.

The guide suggests discovering the story of rebel leader Robert Kett who stormed the city in 1549 and came to a gruesome end in Norwich Castle the same year.

It highlighted the city's "charm" as one of the places with the country's most complete medieval architecture, including the landmark cathedral.

The seven-day trip spans 495 miles beginning in Nottingham before spending a day in Leicester, the New Forest, Windsor and Colchester before heading to Norwich.

For those wanting a greener trip, the north Norfolk coast was mentioned in a separate route to unwind in the English countryside.
