Work on a city centre road which was "highly likely" to disrupt public transport services has been postponed until the new year. 

Openreach - the company that builds and runs the nation's broadband network - was planning to close Castle Meadow for the next week but the project has been axed for now. 

This is because gas firm Cadent and Anglian Water are carrying out emergency repairs in nearby King Street and Prince of Wales Road.

"Therefore, in consultation with both utility and bus operators, the Openreach works in Castle Meadow will take place in the new year to minimise further disruption."

First Bus, Saunders Coaches and Konectbus have stops along its length and National Express coaches frequently use it to reach the bus station in Surrey Street.

A new date has not yet been set for the rescheduled project in the new year.
