What did you used to get up to on a Thursday afternoon? If you played football in a cup game then you are wanted back on the pitch.
Well, not an actual pitch, but at the Norfolk County FA Football Development Centre at New Costessey for a special gathering on Thursday, of course, October 31.
Football author Paul Oxbury has written his third, and he says, last book on local football. It will be another winner.
The new one is called The Midweek Men, a follow-up to The League of Forgotten Men, and follows the history of the Norfolk Thursday Football Cup.
This was a much-loved county cup competition for Thursday Clubs which was run by Norfolk County Football Association between 1904 and 2000.
“As well as summarising the results on a season-by-season basis, I have been able to delve a little bit deeper into some of the fascinating teams and characters who played in the Thursday Cup,” said Paul.
“I have also been able to shine the spotlight on Yarmouth and Lowestoft, as well as other towns whose midweek closing was on a Thursday such as Hunstanton and Thetford,” he added.
The reunion on Thursday October 31 is a great opportunity to get former Thursday football administrators, players and referees together again to reminisce about the good old days. A special time in many lives.
It also gives Paul the opportunity to thank all those who have assisted him in so many ways with his books.
The venue is Norfolk County F.A. Football Development Centre, Bowthorpe Park, Clover Hill Road, New Costessey, Norwich, NR5 93D. Light refreshments will be available, the bar will be open and the book will be on sale at a reduced price. Meet from 5pm for a 5.30pm start.
The book will be on sale to the public later in November.
