People living in a city centre street have been left feeling "nervous" after a man was seen walking nearby with a knife.

A woman who lives in the street, and did not wish to be named, said she had seen the man walking past her window on Sunday morning.

"He was carrying a kitchen knife and looked completely out of it," she said.

"My kids and neighbours saw him as well.

"We're obviously all a bit nervous about knives around here since the stabbing and it doesn't feel like a very nice place to live at the moment."

Last month, Oliver Payne died after being stabbed in the chest in Paragon Place. His killer is still on the run.

Police were called to Chapelfield Gardens just after 8.20am on Sunday to reports a man had stolen "cutlery" from No 33 in the Park, who confirmed that a "steak knife" had been taken.

A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of possessing a bladed article a short time later in West Pottergate.

He was also arrested for theft and being drunk and disorderly.

The man was taken to Wymondham Police Station for questioning where he was subsequently cautioned.
