An investigation is under way after "unexpected subsidence" was discovered in a city street.
Plumstead Road was undergoing resurfacing work when the sinkhole was found and work was immediately halted.
The road is closed between Hilary Avenue and Vincent Road until repairs are completed on August 12.
First Bus has issued an alert due to the closure affecting some of its services.

The Red Line 23/23A will operate from Bishopbridge, along Gurney Road through Mousehold Heath to resume its normal route at Sprowston Retail Park.
The Red Line 24/24A/24B will operate from Wensum House, past the rail station, then Harvey Lane to the Heartsease roundabout, before joining its normal route.
A diversion route for general traffic is via Heartsease Lane, Mousehold Lane, Sprowston Road, Magdalen Road, Bull Close Road, Charlton Road, A147, Barrack Street, Ketts Hill and back on to Plumstead Road.
