Drivers in Norwich will be sent on a 20-minute diversion later this month due to a road closure.
Mousehold Lane will be closed in the eastbound direction from the Salhouse Road junction until the Sprowston Road roundabout on August 18.
The journey would usually take drivers a swift two minutes but the official diversion advises going on a nine-mile trip via the NDR taking around 20 minutes.
The work will involve a road rejuvenator being sprayed on to the road that will soak into the top layer to preserve the asphalt for several years.
Norfolk County Council claims this preservation method is better for the environment and value for money, with the work costing £28,907.

The route will be closed from 7am until 1pm.
A fully signed diversion route will be in place and a spokesman said: "The county council thanks people for their patience while this work is carried out."
The work is the second closure in recent weeks with the previous works being carried out on the same section in June.
