Plans to build a modern 18-bed care home in the city's outskirts have been given the go-ahead.

Under the plans, disused land next to Mousehold Lane will be transformed into a 12-bed apartment block and six bungalows. 

HBV Group, a developer of new-build supported living accommodation based in Knutsford, is behind the plans.

The unit will be built behind the recently completed Mousehold View Care Home and away from the noise of the city's inner ring road.

Each new home will have a kitchen, living space and bedroom, with a communal lounge in the block of flats.

HBV promises that the buildings will deliver a mix of "quality residential accommodation for vulnerable adults with varying needs."

The plans initially divided neighbours, with one person objecting on the grounds that the building would create a "harsh, industrial view" and another supporting the application as the disused land was a "nuisance" and a hot spot for dumping waste.

Under the permission granted by Norwich City Council, the developers have three years to start work.
