Concern as Domino's in Norwich plans to open later

Judith Lubbock, Liberal Democrat councillor for Eaton ward, said she strongly opposes Domino’s Pizza’s proposal to keep its Colman Road site open until 4am every day.

She said that she hopes the plans will be refused, the same outcome as the Papa John's in Colman Road, which applied for similar permission last year.

"It is unnecessary," she said.

"Papa John's tried last year and was unsuccessful.

"I will be opposing the planning application on behalf of the local residents, some of who live in the flats above and houses behind the Dominos.

"It would be really disturbing for them, particularly if it proved popular.

"There is lots of activity in the area in the early morning at the best of times, we don't need more people hanging about and the noise of delivery drivers on their motorbikes."

However, in a cover letter submitted to the council in April by The Pegasus Group, the agents acting on behalf of Domino's, it seems the site has already been opening until 4am "since the grant of the late-night license on February 23, 2024, which permitted the store to operate between 11.30am and 4am daily".

When approached by this paper for further information about the current opening hours, a spokeswoman for Domino's said: "Our Norwich-West store operates until 11pm.

"However, local customers who want to order our pizzas after this time can do so until 4am via our website and app with the orders prepared and delivered from the nearby Norwich-North store.

"The Norwich West store has applied to extend the opening hours so, in the future, they can fulfil all orders themselves."

Norwich City Council is due to reach a decision about the plans by July 29.
