Costa Coffee and Wendy's planned for Norwich NDR services

Costa Coffee wants to open a drive-through and cafe near the Norwich North Recycling Centre in Morse Road, off Cromer Road and near the NDR at Hellesdon.

It may be joined by a Wendy's, an American fast food chain that serves "fast but fresh" burgers, sandwiches, fries and milkshakes.

If approved, the site will have nearly 70 parking spaces, 10 of which will be for electric vehicles and bike racks, with Wendy's having a large outdoor seating area at the edge of the car park.

It would be the first Wendy's in Norwich, although plans were submitted just before Christmas for the franchise to open a branch in Swaffham.

According to the planning application, the plans have been submitted by Marsenne Properties Ltd, Herefordshire-based developers who specialise in drive-throughs and convenience stores.

The opening hours of each site are yet to be decided but, as drive-throughs, they have the scope to be open 24/7.

If the plans are approved by Broadland District Council, the cafe and restaurant will be among the first builds as part of the Broadway Enterprise Park.

Plans for the enterprise park were first floated in 2019 and the future development of the site will largely consist of industrial warehouses and offices, but could also include a hotel, a park and ride and a petrol station, alongside the food outlets.

The plans will see a large plot of land off the NDR bordering Horsham St Faith developed over the next few years.

The new recycling centre is already open on the site by Norfolk County Council.

As planning permission has already been secured for two drive-throughs in the area as part of the Broadway Enterprise Park, the application submitted is only for the appearance of the proposed buildings, landscaping and scale.
