A wheelchair rugby club has been nominated for a national award.

Norfolk Knights Wheelchair Rugby Club was formed in 2016.

Members compete in nationwide contests and with a new head coach and secretary, the club has seen a significant boost in membership.

It trains every Saturday at Wymondham Leisure Centre from 11.45am to 2.15pm and invites anyone with a physical disability to participate or observe.

Despite facing setbacks due to the Covid pandemic, the Knights have emerged stronger, running essential training for those with a range of conditions, including severe mobility impediments.

With wheelchair rugby championing inclusivity, the club actively encourages new members, both players and volunteers, to join them.

The club has been nominated for the Community Organisation Award for Disability at the 2024 National Diversity Awards.

The Knights are a volunteer-driven, non-profit grassroots club, reliant entirely on sponsorship and donations for operation.

While the nomination is a commendable achievement in itself, the Knights continue to seek like-minded sponsors who value diversity and inclusivity.

Their next competitive tournament is scheduled in Sunderland on April 13.
