Explorer Scouts in Norwich are expanding.
The Phoenix Explorer Unit, designed for young people aged 14 to 17, started in October 2023 and has since grown to include 15 youths.
The unit, which meets in the main hall at St Cuthbert's Church in Sprowston on Thursday evenings from 7pm to 9pm, has already undertaken activities such as an open-air sleep-out, a food bank visit, a weekend camp, and a culinary planning and preparation evening.
James, a volunteer with the unit, said "These young people will develop skills for life.

"These include, team-working, decision making, independent thinking and programme planning.
"They will also develop their communication skills and social skills.
"All of the skills they learn will help them when applying for further education or employment.”
Future plans include a sleepover at Legoland and an exploration of the medieval tunnels under Norwich.

"I’d always thought that I’d like to do so much more with the age range than a school environment allows.
"Working with these young people gives me the opportunity to do that.”
For the young members themselves, the unit offers a chance to try out novel activities with friends, some of whom they've known since their time in Beavers, for children aged six to eight.
