A supermarket giant has refused to confirm if plans to move into a prominent city centre site have fallen through.
Multiple sources have cited concerns that Morrisons will no longer take over the empty former Topshop site in Haymarket.
And the deal is shrouded in mystery as requests made by this newspaper for clarification on the status of the move have been declined.
Morrisons has previously confirmed it will be moving into the ground floor of the unit, with a source close to the project saying the retailer was expected to sign a 15-year lease in February 2023 ahead of a possible June opening.
Work started on the building in July 2022, with plans for 13 flats also lodged, but progress has since appeared to grind to a halt.
It has been reported nationally that the debt-laden supermarket chain is battling to save costs following a takeover in 2021 by an American private equity group.
Rising interest rates and departing customers are cited as heightening the risk that Morrisons' owners could resort to asset-stripping and cost-cutting.
